Helping my cousin with an orange graded climb. Photo by Kailee Purnell

This week when I went climbing I brought my little cousins with me! At the Boulderhouse Langford there is a “treehouse” upstairs, which is a smaller version of the climbing gym downstairs. I had always wanted to try climbing in the treehouse since I thought it would be an extra challenge for me since every climb is graded the same but sized for kids. I also love how cute it is (just because it is a mini version). I was surprised with how hard it was for me to do some of the green graded climbs, which I can usually flash with ease. In the climbing world, flash is what you say when you get a climb on your first try. However, since I am so much taller than what the climbs are set for, it was extremely hard for me! My younger cousins on the other hand loved it! I brought two cousins, aged five and six, and it was their first time climbing. I was worried that they were going to be too scared to try but I was pleasantly surprised with how brave they were. They tried many different graded climbs, and flashed a few of them! My cousins are already asking when I can take them again. It was super fun to bring them and show them one of the activities I enjoy!

I have not yet made it to the gym to try my pull-ups for this week but I plan to go tomorrow. I read this article today to make sure that my form is right. This week I am going to try and only use the yellow resistance band to help me, which is the lesser strength one of the two that I use. I am excited to see how they have progressed since last week.
